Bundaberg resort a step closer

A luxury resort development proposed for the Fairymead area on the Burnett River in Bundaberg is a step closer to delivering 150 villas, about 400 units, residential, luxury and backpacker accommodation as well as a marina harbour.

The team behind the $350 million Coral Coast Marina Resort Village proposal, Burchill Strategic Projects led by engineer and master planner Geoff Burchill, said the project which stalled after the region’s floods, is now awaiting state government approval.

It would include a marina, a helicopter pad, residential units, houses, a multi-functional hotel and parkland.

Burchill Strategic Projects is now working with the co-ordinator-general towards having the project delivered as a state significant project, due to its economic benefit.

Mr Burchill said the benefits for the region in terms of tourism and job generation provided countless opportunities. “Tourism is labour intensive, requiring many diverse things which offer employment to the region,” he said. “For every direct job created, many more local opportunities emerge.”

Mr Burchill said the aim was to lock down the Land Master Development stage in the first half of 2015 and have the project well under way by 2018.
