In a groundbreaking wellness event, Hotel X Brisbane transformed its iconic rooftop pool into the world’s largest hotel ice bath.
From 6:30am, on Thursday December 5, locals and hotel guests braved the chill to dive into the 15-metre-long ice-filled pool, enjoying a spectacular sunrise and panoramic views of the city skyline. This innovative summer activation combined wellness, community spirit, and charity in a moment to remember.

Partnering with Bells Pure Ice, the hotel used four tonnes of ice to create this frosty oasis. The transformation took two hours, resulting in an exhilarating experience for participants. This unique event highlights Hotel X’s commitment to promoting wellness and authentic travel experiences that celebrate Brisbane’s creativity and vibrant community.
The benefits of ice baths are well-documented, including reducing muscle inflammation, supporting immunity, releasing endorphins, and improving overall mental health. However, this morning’s plunge wasn’t just about wellness. Hotel X also used the event to raise funds for LIVIN, a non-profit organisation dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.
LIVIN Founder Casey Lyons expressed gratitude for the support: “We are grateful for Hotel X’s ongoing commitment to LIVIN, raising much-needed funds for mental health education programs in schools.
“Events like this bring the community together and highlight the physical and mental health benefits of activities like ice baths, from reducing stress to aiding recovery.”
Participants in the icy challenge were treated to a warm reception with pastries from Iris Rooftop and beverages provided by Tea Tonic and Allpress Coffee. The rooftop venue, operated by Ghanem Group, has become a standout destination in Fortitude Valley, blending exceptional dining with unbeatable views.
More Than Just an Ice Bath This activation is the latest in a series of dynamic collaborations by Hotel X, which has made a name for itself by partnering with local creatives and businesses.
Over the past year, the hotel has hosted pop-ups and in-room offerings featuring breweries, wellness brands, yoga studios, and even tattoo parlours.
These initiatives aim to immerse guests in Brisbane’s eclectic culture and provide a true taste of the city’s vibrant community.
Jeremy Colahan, General Manager of Hotel X, said, “At Hotel X, our daily inspiration comes from our lively local community.
“We’re proud of the diverse partnerships we’ve fostered, which showcase the creativity and culture of Fortitude Valley. Our goal is to immerse guests in every unique aspect of this colourful neighbourhood.”
