Dept store to be 4-star hotel
Brisbane’s 1902 TC Beirne building is to get a $20 million development to transform three floors of office space into 112 four-star hotel rooms, according to lord mayor Graham Quirk.
The Queensland Heritage listed building was established by Thomas Charles Beirne as a department store but purchased by David Jones in 1961 and is now owned by the Tseng family.
Cr Quirk said, “There will be some changes obviously, but they won’t be changes that will be detrimental to the heritage nature of the building,” Cr Quirk said. “In fact its the heritage nature that will become the attraction for this particular hotel.”
The Tsengs have not announced a management company or brand to run the hotel.
