Melbourne W hotel plans abandoned
Melbourne town planners appear to have scuttled the city’s W Hotel. Last year Jinshan Investments unveiled plans for a glittering 100m tower on the site of the former Palace Theatre.
But Victoria’s planning minister Matthew Guy said Jinshan Investments has to slash its plans for 350 apartment and hotel rooms. The proposed hotel is now just seven storeys and has 78 rooms, with the hotel’s price tag reduced from $180 million to $20 million.
In the latest plans submitted to Melbourne City Council there are no references to the W Hotel. It is understood the luxury hotel chain is no longer involved in the project, with new plans referring to a “boutique” hotel.
